We buy Organic - Why Should You?

Organic agriculture is an ecological production management system that actively promotes and enhances biodiversity, biological cycles and soil biology. It is based on management practices that restore, maintain and enhance ecological harmony while minimizing or eliminating use of off-farm inputs. Organic food handlers, processors and retailers adhere to standards that maintain the integrity of organic agricultural products. Organic agriculture does not allow the use of synthetic pesticides, including fungicides, insecticides, rodenticides and wood preservatives; synthetic fertilizers; materials and products produced from genetic engineering; sewage sludge; synthetic growth regulators (hormones); synthetic veterinary drugs, including antibiotics and parasiticides; irradiation; synthetic product-processing substances, aids and ingredients, and additions to food including sulphates, nitrates and nitrites. In production equipment, packaging materials and storage containers, or bins that contain a synthetic fungicide, preservative or fumigant are not allowed.

Raw Cacao Powder vs. Organic

Holy Kakow produces both raw and organic products to meet the needs, tastes and price points for our customers. Our Raw products are exactly that 100% raw. None of our raw product ingredients are heated at any point in their processing above 120˚ – this ensures the maximum quality of nutrients. So why Raw? That's easy - Raw foods retain all the nutrients that are damaged and or destroyed by heating and other processing. You get what nature intended when you buy Raw. Many people believe that chocolate cannot be raw which might have been true in the past - current processing methods allow for the manufacture of truly raw cacao powders.

Our Rapture Organic Syrup and Righteous Organic Powder use an organic cacao powder which is not raw and is the only non-raw ingredient we use. The powder starts off as fermented cacao nibs that are removed from their husks and heated to 135˚ for approximately 12 minutes. This process, though invasive to the purist, yields a powder that is highly nutritious, possessing many of cacao’s intrinsic benefits, and is a great source for your daily nutritional needs.
